Who we are

Byte Studio (“we”, “us”) is a software house and web design studio based in East Anglia, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for any personal data described in this policy. If you have any questions, email us at hello@bytestudio.co.uk.

What we collect, and why

When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, optional phone number and your message – only so we can read and reply to your enquiry. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us, and taking steps to enter into a contract where relevant. These enquiries are delivered to us by email (see “Who we share data with”) and are not stored in a database on this website.

Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-first and does not use cookies and does not track you across sites. It collects aggregate, anonymised information – such as page views, referring sites, country and device type – that does not identify you. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used so we can improve it.

Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting keeps standard technical logs (such as IP addresses and requested pages) for a short period, for security and to keep the site running. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in the security and operation of the site.

Cookies

We don’t use any tracking or advertising cookies, which is why you won’t see a cookie banner. The site uses only essential, non-tracking storage: a security cookie (CSRF protection) set if you submit the contact form, and a small value saved in your browser to remember your light or dark theme preference. Neither is used to identify you.

Who we share data with

We never sell your data. We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the studio, each acting only to provide their service to us:

• Fastmail – receives and stores the email enquiries you send us.
• Cloudflare – provides our DNS and the cookieless web analytics described above.
• OVH – hosts the server this website runs on.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK; where they do, they rely on appropriate safeguards (such as UK/EU-approved transfer mechanisms).

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry emails for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any ongoing relationship, after which they’re deleted. Analytics data is aggregate and anonymised, so it isn’t tied to you.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, object to our use of it, or provide it in a portable format. To exercise any of these, just email hello@bytestudio.co.uk and we’ll help. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), though we’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page.
